ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

There is but one God. True is His Name and Creative His personality. By the Guru's grace He is obtained.

ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਬਾਵਨ ਅਖਰੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ

Measure Gauri Purbi. An Acrostic Of Kabir ji.

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

There is but one God. True is His Name and Creative His personality. By the Guru's grace He is obtained.

ਬਾਵਨ ਅਛਰ ਲੋਕ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

Through these fifty-two letters, the three worlds and all else are described.

ਏ ਅਖਰ ਖਿਰਿ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਓਇ ਅਖਰ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

These letters shall perish. That Imperishable Lord's cannot be described through these letters.

ਜਹਾ ਬੋਲ ਤਹ ਅਛਰ ਆਵਾ ॥

Where there is speech, there are letters (words).

ਜਹ ਅਬੋਲ ਤਹ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਵਾ ॥

Where there is no speech, there the mind remains not stable.

ਬੋਲ ਅਬੋਲ ਮਧਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ॥

Both in speech and silence, He, the Lord abides.

ਜਸ ਓਹੁ ਹੈ ਤਸ ਲਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥

As He is, none can know Him as such.

ਅਲਹ ਲਹਉ ਤਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਉ ਕਹਉ ਤ ਕੋ ਉਪਕਾਰ ॥

If I obtain the Adorable Lord, what shall I say then? By uttering His praise, what good I do to others?

ਬਟਕ ਬੀਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥੩॥

He whose expanse is in the three worlds, is contained in the seed of Banyan tree.

ਅਲਹ ਲਹੰਤਾ ਭੇਦ ਛੈ ਕਛੁ ਕਛੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਭੇਦ ॥

He who knows the Lord and understand His secret, even a little, for him separation disappears.

ਉਲਟਿ ਭੇਦ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਓ ਪਾਇਓ ਅਭੰਗ ਅਛੇਦ ॥੪॥

When mortal turns away from the world, his mind is pierced through with the Lord's secret and he obtains the Indestructible and Impenetrable God.

ਤੁਰਕ ਤਰੀਕਤਿ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥

A Muslim understands the Muslim way of life and a Hindu the Vedas and Puranas.

ਮਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਨ ਕਾਰਨੇ ਕਛੂਅਕ ਪੜੀਐ ਗਿਆਨ ॥੫॥

To instruct his mind, man ought to study Divine knowledge to some extent.

ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਆਦਿ ਮੈ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

I know only the One Lord, who is the source of everything.

ਲਿਖਿ ਅਰੁ ਮੇਟੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਮਾਨਾ ॥

I believe not in him, whom the Lord writes (creates) and erases (destroys).

ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥

If someone sees the one Lord,

ਸੋਈ ਲਖਿ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥

he perishes not by beholding Him.

ਕਕਾ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਕਮਲ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

K: When the rays of Divine Knowledge came into the heart lotus,

ਸਸਿ ਬਿਗਾਸ ਸੰਪਟ ਨਹੀ ਆਵਾ ॥

the moon shine of mammon, enters not the heart-can.

ਅਰੁ ਜੇ ਤਹਾ ਕੁਸਮ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

And if man obtains there the otto of the spiritual flower,

ਅਕਹ ਕਹਾ ਕਹਿ ਕਾ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥੭॥

He would be unable to describe the indescribable relish there of By narration, whom can he make understand this?

ਖਖਾ ਇਹੈ ਖੋੜਿ ਮਨ ਆਵਾ ॥

Kh-- This soul has entered the Lord's cave.

ਖੋੜੇ ਛਾਡਿ ਨ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵਾ ॥

Leaving the cave, it now, wanders not in ten directions.

ਖਸਮਹਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਖਿਮਾ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੈ ॥

When, knowing the Master, man practises forgiveness,

ਤਉ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਖਿਅਉ ਅਖੈ ਪਦੁ ਲਹੈ ॥੮॥

then he becomes immortal and attains the Imperishable dignity.

ਗਗਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥

G - He who understand Guru's instruction,

ਦੂਜੀ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਧਰਈ ਕਾਨਾ ॥

lends not his ears to anything else.

ਰਹੈ ਬਿਹੰਗਮ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

He remains like a recluse and goes nowhere else,

ਅਗਹ ਗਹੈ ਗਹਿ ਗਗਨ ਰਹਾਈ ॥੯॥

who grasps the ungraspable Lord and so grasping Him abides in the tenth-gate.

ਘਘਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਿਮਸੈ ਸੋਈ ॥

GHAGHA: He dwells in each and every heart.

ਘਟ ਫੂਟੇ ਘਟਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

When the body pitcher bursts, He never gets diminished.

ਤਾ ਘਟ ਮਾਹਿ ਘਾਟ ਜਉ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

When in that heart, man finds the way to the Lord,

ਸੋ ਘਟੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਅਵਘਟ ਕਤ ਧਾਵਾ ॥੧੦॥

abandoning that way, why should he follow a difficult path?

ਙੰਙਾ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਸਨੇਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਰਵਾਰੋ ਸੰਦੇਹ ॥

Ng - Restrain thyself bear love to thy Lord and dismiss thy doubts.

ਨਾਹੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਭਾਜੀਐ ਪਰਮ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਏਹ ॥੧੧॥

Thou see no way to thy Lord, flee not away, This is the highest wisdom.

ਚਚਾ ਰਚਿਤ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਭਾਰੀ ॥

Ch - The master has painted the great picture of the world.

ਤਜਿ ਚਿਤ੍ਰੈ ਚੇਤਹੁ ਚਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥

Leave the painting and remember the painter.

ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਇਹੈ ਅਵਝੇਰਾ ॥

This wonderous painting is now, the bone of contention.

ਤਜਿ ਚਿਤ੍ਰੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਚਿਤੇਰਾ ॥੧੨॥

Dismiss picture and keep thy mind on the Painter.

ਛਛਾ ਇਹੈ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਪਾਸਾ ॥

Chh--God, the Lord of umbrella, is here with thee.

ਛਕਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਰਹਹੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਆਸਾ ॥

Why and what for, dost thou not abandon desires and remain happy?

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਤਉ ਛਿਨ ਛਿਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥

O mind, every moment do I instruct thee.

ਤਾਹਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਕਤ ਆਪੁ ਬਧਾਵਾ ॥੧੩॥

Forsaking Him, why dost thou entangle thyself.

ਜਜਾ ਜਉ ਤਨ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਰਾਵੈ ॥

J - if a man while alive burns his body,

ਜੋਬਨ ਜਾਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

and consigns to fire his youth, he finds the right way.

ਅਸ ਜਰਿ ਪਰ ਜਰਿ ਜਰਿ ਜਬ ਰਹੈ ॥

When the man abides, discarding his own wealth and the wealth of others,

ਤਬ ਜਾਇ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਜਾਰਉ ਲਹੈ ॥੧੪॥

then proceeding on, he obtains the bright light of the Lord.

ਝਝਾ ਉਰਝਿ ਸੁਰਝਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

Jh--Thou art entangled with the world and knowest not how to disentangle thyself.

ਰਹਿਓ ਝਝਕਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥

Thou shrinkest back and art not acceptable to God.

ਕਤ ਝਖਿ ਝਖਿ ਅਉਰਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥

Why talk nonsense to convince other?

ਝਗਰੁ ਕੀਏ ਝਗਰਉ ਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੧੫॥

By stirring up controversy, controversy thou shalt have.

ਞੰਞਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਜੁ ਘਟ ਰਹਿਓ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਹਾ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

Nj--The Lord abides near thee in thy heart. Why leave Him and go far to seek Him?

ਜਾ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਜਗੁ ਢੂਢਿਅਉ ਨੇਰਉ ਪਾਇਅਉ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੧੬॥

Him, for whom I have searched the whole world, I have found near me.

ਟਟਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਘਾਟ ਘਟ ਮਾਹੀ ॥

T-The difficult way to God is within man's mind.

ਖੋਲਿ ਕਪਾਟ ਮਹਲਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥

Opening the shutters, why dost thou not repair to His presence?

ਦੇਖਿ ਅਟਲ ਟਲਿ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਵਾ ॥

Beholding the Immovable One, thou shalt not slip and go elsewhere.

ਰਹੈ ਲਪਟਿ ਘਟ ਪਰਚਉ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੧੭॥

Thou shalt remain clung to God and thy heart shall be glad.

ਠਠਾ ਇਹੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਠਗ ਨੀਰਾ ॥

Th--Keep thyself at distance from this mammon's mirage.

ਨੀਠਿ ਨੀਠਿ ਮਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਧੀਰਾ ॥

With great difficulty, I have rendered my mind patient.

ਜਿਨਿ ਠਗਿ ਠਗਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਖਾਵਾ ॥

The cheat, which had cheated and devoured the whole world,

ਸੋ ਠਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਠਉਰ ਮਨੁ ਆਵਾ ॥੧੮॥

I have cheated that cheat,. my mind is now at peace.

ਡਡਾ ਡਰ ਉਪਜੇ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਈ ॥

D - When Lord's fear is produced others fears depart.

ਤਾ ਡਰ ਮਹਿ ਡਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

In that fear, Other fears remain absorbed.

ਜਉ ਡਰ ਡਰੈ ਤ ਫਿਰਿ ਡਰੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

When man rejects Lord's fear, then others fears cling to him.

ਨਿਡਰ ਹੂਆ ਡਰੁ ਉਰ ਹੋਇ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧੯॥

If he becomes fear-free, the fear of him mind flees away.

ਢਢਾ ਢਿਗ ਢੂਢਹਿ ਕਤ ਆਨਾ ॥

Dh--Why searchest thou Him elsewhere in other directions?

ਢੂਢਤ ਹੀ ਢਹਿ ਗਏ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥

While searching for Him elsewhere the life ends.

ਚੜਿ ਸੁਮੇਰਿ ਢੂਢਿ ਜਬ ਆਵਾ ॥

When I returned, after ascending the mountain, in search for Him,

ਜਿਹ ਗੜੁ ਗੜਿਓ ਸੁ ਗੜ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੦॥

I found Him in the body castle, the castle which He Himself had make.

ਣਾਣਾ ਰਣਿ ਰੂਤਉ ਨਰ ਨੇਹੀ ਕਰੈ ॥

N--The Man engaged in strife, should practise perseverance.

ਨਾ ਨਿਵੈ ਨਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੰਚਰੈ ॥

He should neither quail, and again nor should he retreat.

ਧੰਨਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਗਣੈ ॥

Blessed is accounted the advent of him,

ਮਾਰੈ ਏਕਹਿ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇ ਘਣੈ ॥੨੧॥

who conquers his one mind and eschews the many desires.

ਤਤਾ ਅਤਰ ਤਰਿਓ ਨਹ ਜਾਈ ॥

T - The unswimable world-ocean cannot be forded.

ਤਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

The human body is engrossed in the three worlds.

ਜਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਤਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਾ ॥

When the Lord of the three worlds enters into my body,

ਤਉ ਤਤਹਿ ਤਤ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੨॥

then my real-self blends with the Reality and obtains the True Lord.

ਥਥਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਥਾਹ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

Th--The Lord is Unfathomable. His depth cannot be explored.

ਓਹੁ ਅਥਾਹ ਇਹੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਵਾ ॥

He is limitless, This body remains not stable.

ਥੋੜੈ ਥਲਿ ਥਾਨਕ ਆਰੰਭੈ ॥

Over a small space man begins to erect a hamlet.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹੀ ਥਾਭਹ ਮੰਦਿਰੁ ਥੰਭੈ ॥੨੩॥

Without pillars, he wishes to support a mansion

ਦਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਜੁ ਬਿਨਸਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

Th--Whatever we see is perishable.

ਜਸ ਅਦੇਖਿ ਤਸ ਰਾਖਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥

Think of Him who is unseen.

ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਕੁੰਚੀ ਜਬ ਦੀਜੈ ॥

When the key of Divine Knowledge is applied to the tenth gate,

ਤਉ ਦਇਆਲ ਕੋ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੨੪॥

then is the sight of the Merciful Master beheld.

ਧਧਾ ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥

Dh - Everything is settled, if one from lower region soars to the higher One.

ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧਹ ਮੰਝਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥

Lord's abode is in earth and heaven.

ਅਰਧਹ ਛਾਡਿ ਉਰਧ ਜਉ ਆਵਾ ॥

When leaving the earth, the soul goes to heaven then,

ਤਉ ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੫॥

the soul and God meet and peace is obtained.

ਨੰਨਾ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਾਈ ॥

N - My nights and days pass looking for God.

ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਰਹੇ ਰਤਵਾਈ ॥

By such waiting my eyes have grown blood-shout.

ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਬ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

When, after long waiting, man finds God in his heart's abode,

ਤਬ ਲੇ ਨਿਰਖਹਿ ਨਿਰਖ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥੨੬॥

then, He who beholds blends with Him who is looked for.

ਪਪਾ ਅਪਰ ਪਾਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

P - The Master is boundless and His bounds cannot be known.

ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਚਉ ਲਾਵਾ ॥

I have contracted intimacy with the Supreme light.

ਪਾਂਚਉ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹ ਕਰਈ ॥

He who controls his five senses,

ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਨਿਰਵਰਈ ॥੨੭॥

is relieved of the idea of both evil and goodness.

ਫਫਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਫੂਲਹ ਫਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

Ph - Without the flower, the fruit is produced.

ਤਾ ਫਲ ਫੰਕ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥

If anyone looks at the slice of that fruit,

ਦੂਣਿ ਨ ਪਰਈ ਫੰਕ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥

and reflects on the slice, he suffers not transmigration.

ਤਾ ਫਲ ਫੰਕ ਸਭੈ ਤਨ ਫਾਰੈ ॥੨੮॥

That section of the fruit tears up all the bodies.

ਬਬਾ ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥

B - When the drop blends with drop,

ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦਿ ਨ ਬਿਛੁਰਨ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

then these drops separate not again.

ਬੰਦਉ ਹੋਇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਗਹੈ ॥

Becoming Lord's slave, man ought to hold fast His meditation.

ਬੰਦਕ ਹੋਇ ਬੰਧ ਸੁਧਿ ਲਹੈ ॥੨੯॥

If one becomes the thinker of the Lord, He takes care of him like a relation.

ਭਭਾ ਭੇਦਹਿ ਭੇਦ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥

Bh--By piercing (removing) doubt the union with God is achieved.

ਅਬ ਭਉ ਭਾਨਿ ਭਰੋਸਉ ਆਵਾ ॥

By shattering fear, I have, now, gained confidence.

ਜੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

Him, whom I thought without me, I have, now found within me.

ਭਇਆ ਭੇਦੁ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿਆ ॥੩੦॥

When I found this secret, I recognised the World-Lord.

ਮਮਾ ਮੂਲ ਗਹਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥

M--By clinging to the Root, the soul is propitiated.

ਮਰਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

The Knower of this secret understands his mind.

ਮਤ ਕੋਈ ਮਨ ਮਿਲਤਾ ਬਿਲਮਾਵੈ ॥

Let no mortal make delay in attaching his soul to God.

ਮਗਨ ਭਇਆ ਤੇ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩੧॥

They who obtain the True Lord, get immersed in delight.

ਮਮਾ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਾਜੁ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਸਾਧੇ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

M--The mortal's business is with his mind. He who chastens his mind. He who chastens his mind attains perfection.

ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਮਨ ਸਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩੨॥

Says Kabir, I have dealings with my mind alone. I have met with nothing like the mind.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਕਤੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਉ ॥

This mind is power. This mind is God.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਚ ਤਤ ਕੋ ਜੀਉ ॥

This mind is the life of the five elements of the body.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲੇ ਜਉ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਰਹੈ ॥

Restraining his mind when man remains in the state of beatitude,

ਤਉ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਕੀ ਬਾਤੈ ਕਹੈ ॥੩੩॥

then can he tell the secrets of the three worlds.

ਯਯਾ ਜਉ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਤਉ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਸਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਗਾਉ ॥

Y - If Thou know anything, then, destroy thy evil-intellect and subdue thy body hamlet.

ਰਣਿ ਰੂਤਉ ਭਾਜੈ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਰਉ ਥਾਰਉ ਨਾਉ ॥੩੪॥

Being engaged in battle, if thou flee not away, thou shalt go by the Name of a hero.

ਰਾਰਾ ਰਸੁ ਨਿਰਸ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

R--The worldly pleasures I have deemed as unpalatable.

ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਸ ਸੁ ਰਸੁ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿਆ ॥

Becoming the spurner of relishes, I have realised that spiritual bliss.

ਇਹ ਰਸ ਛਾਡੇ ਉਹ ਰਸੁ ਆਵਾ ॥

By abandoning these temporal savours that spiritual bliss is attained.

ਉਹ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਇਹ ਰਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਵਾ ॥੩੫॥

By quaffing, that Nectar this worldly relish remain not pleasing.

ਲਲਾ ਐਸੇ ਲਿਵ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

L - Man ought to imbibe such love for God in his mind,

ਅਨਤ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

that he goes not to another and obtains the Supreme Truth.

ਅਰੁ ਜਉ ਤਹਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

And If, there in, he embraces love and affection for Him,

ਤਉ ਅਲਹ ਲਹੈ ਲਹਿ ਚਰਨ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩੬॥

he attains the Lord and obtaining Him becomes absorbed in His Feet.

ਵਵਾ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਬਿਸਨ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਰਿ ॥

W - Over and over again think of thy Master.

ਬਿਸਨ ਸੰਮ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਾਰਿ ॥

By remembering God, defeat shall not come to thee.

ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜੇ ਬਿਸਨਤਨਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥

I am devoted and a sacrifice unto those, who sing the praise of Lord's sons.

ਵਿਸਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩੭॥

By meeting God, the entire truth is obtained.

ਵਾਵਾ ਵਾਹੀ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਵਾ ਜਾਨੇ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

W - Know Him, by knowing Him, this man becomes as He is.

ਇਹੁ ਅਰੁ ਓਹੁ ਜਬ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਬ ਮਿਲਤ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩੮॥

When this soul and that Lord are blended, then after union none can distinguish them.

ਸਸਾ ਸੋ ਨੀਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਸੋਧਹੁ ॥

S--Discipline the mind perfectly well.

ਘਟ ਪਰਚਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਨਿਰੋਧਹੁ ॥

Retrain thyself from every talk, which allures the mind.

ਘਟ ਪਰਚੈ ਜਉ ਉਪਜੈ ਭਾਉ ॥

When love for God springs up, the mind is pleased,

ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਰਾਉ ॥੩੯॥

and therein the king of three worlds remains fully pervading.

ਖਖਾ ਖੋਜਿ ਪਰੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥ ਜੋ ਖੋਜੈ ਸੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

Kh - Any one who searches Him,

ਖੋਜ ਬੂਝਿ ਜਉ ਕਰੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

When man searches, knows and meditates upon the Lord,

ਤਉ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਤ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੪੦॥

then he crosses the frightful world-ocean without delay.

ਸਸਾ ਸੋ ਸਹ ਸੇਜ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥

S - That maid, whose couch, He (the Spouse) adorns with His presence,

ਸੋਈ ਸਹੀ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥

she stills her scepticism.

ਅਲਪ ਸੁਖ ਛਾਡਿ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

Renouncing the paltry pleasure, she procures the supreme delight.

ਤਬ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰੀਅ ਓੁਹੁ ਕੰਤੁ ਕਹਾਵਾ ॥੪੧॥

Then she is called the bride and He, her Bridegroom.

ਹਾਹਾ ਹੋਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

H--God exits, but man knows not Him existence.

ਜਬ ਹੀ ਹੋਇ ਤਬਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਾ ॥

When he realises His existence, then is his mind propitiated.

ਹੈ ਤਉ ਸਹੀ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥

For sure, the Lord exists, only if some one could understand Him.

ਤਬ ਓਹੀ ਉਹੁ ਏਹੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੪੨॥

In that case, He alone, will seem, and not this man.

ਲਿੰਉ ਲਿੰਉ ਕਰਤ ਫਿਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਗੁ ॥

I will take this, I will take that everyone goes about saying.

ਤਾ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਗੁ ॥

Because of that, man is infested with great sorrow.

ਲਖਿਮੀ ਬਰ ਸਿਉ ਜਉ ਲਿਉ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

When he comes to bear love with the Lord of wealth,

ਸੋਗੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੪੩॥

his sorrow departs and he attains all peace.

ਖਖਾ ਖਿਰਤ ਖਪਤ ਗਏ ਕੇਤੇ ॥

Kh - Many have pined and perished away.

ਖਿਰਤ ਖਪਤ ਅਜਹੂੰ ਨਹ ਚੇਤੇ ॥

Inspite of such wasting away and destruction man does not, even now, remember the Lord.

ਅਬ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਜਉ ਮਨਾ ਰਹੈ ॥

If anyone even now, understands the temporary nature of the world,

ਜਹ ਕਾ ਬਿਛੁਰਾ ਤਹ ਥਿਰੁ ਲਹੈ ॥੪੪॥

and restrains, his mind, he shall find a permanent place there from where he was separated.

ਬਾਵਨ ਅਖਰ ਜੋਰੇ ਆਨਿ ॥

Man has joined the fifty two letters.

ਸਕਿਆ ਨ ਅਖਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਨਿ ॥

But he cannot recognise the One word of God.

ਸਤ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਕਹੈ ॥

Kabir utters the word of truth.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਅਨਭੈ ਰਹੈ ॥

He, who is a Brahman, remains without fear.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਗਹ ਕਉ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥
